Quaker Wood

Quaker Wood is a 5.5 acre site comprising young woodland, open spaces, wildflower meadow, pond and natural areas.
It is open every day and managed by Diss Community Woodland Project, a registered charity and local volunteer group without any regular public funding. This area is managed by volunteers for the quiet enjoyment of YOU, the local community, and for the benefit of the varied wildlife.
Quaker Wood is a much-loved community woodland that has been cared for and developed over many years. Established in 2010, it combines wooded areas, grass paths, meadow space, and a central pond, creating a varied and rewarding environment for wildlife and visitors alike.
The wood is managed with a practical, nature-friendly approach that encourages biodiversity while keeping the site welcoming and accessible. Grass paths through the trees make it easy to explore, while the mix of habitats supports birds, insects, wildflowers, and other woodland species throughout the year.
Quaker Wood is also a valuable local resource for education and community involvement. It offers a setting for school visits, youth working parties, and community groups, giving people the chance to learn about nature through hands-on experience.
Regular volunteer work parties help maintain the site and keep it in good condition. These sessions are a chance to get involved, meet others, and contribute directly to the care of a special green space for Diss.
Scything season began today at Quaker Wood! Our volunteers headed to the wildflower meadow to begin the process of cutting and clearing the overgrowth, alongside completing other maintenance tasks across the site.
We also began our programme of seed collecting to gather and prepare the seeds to help spread more wildflowers across the site and improve biodiversity. The white flower is White Campion and the purple one is Knapweed.
New volunteers of any age and ability are always welcome to our sessions, which meet at The Wood on the first Saturday of every month from 9:30am to around midday!
